About Class ...
What is hiphop, hip-hop, or hip hop dance?
Sometimes referred to as "street dance", Merriam Webster online defines it as "hip-hop dance or less commonly hip hop dance or hiphop dance : syncopated dancing typically performed to hip-hop music"
Common exposure to modern hiphop dance is via the commercial route, when watching music videos. Dance movements categorized as hiphop have traditionally included popping, locking and breaking, but the style is constantly changing. It also can incorporate more physical, krump-like expressions, or contemporary-dance-reminiscent or tap-like movements. You can expect intricate footwork and it can be highly improvisational. Some adults enjoy hiphop dance for its cardiovascular nature and use it as a fun way to stay fit.
Mostly, hiphop dance is an attitude.
Feel free .. be free ... feel the beat and feel into your own flavor or style. Develop your dance vocabulary and use it!
Mariecella creates a fun, versatile hiphop environment that is somewhat challenging yet approachable for ages 10 and up, including adults.
Arguably, classes at DevineFunk are among the most approachable adult hiphop dance classes in Portland, OR.
Mariecella's style can be described as a subtle and funky flow, with playful combinations and fancy footwork. Her choreography has more of a rhythmic vs. lyrical focus and is highly adaptable.
